Visit to Cesky KrumlovA 2 hour car ride from Prague nestles the picturesqe town of Cesky Krumlov.
This romantic and charming place offers a warm and welcome break
from the hustle and bustle of city centre Prague. Our visit was in low
season, so the streets, hotels and bars were relatiwely quiet, but this
added to Cesky Krumlov charm and appeal.
Once checked into the Dvorak hotel, with it's comfortable spacious
high quality rooms offerring excellent views of surrounding town and
castle, we explored the old town with the assistance of an experienced
and knowledgeable tour guide. I would highly recommend a tour of this
nature to gain the most from your visit. The tour included information
and visits to the town square, church castle and through the character
filled streets, each building with a unique history and story to tell.
My favorite part of the tour was the walk upto and into the castle,
which was by night trully beatiful. Here we saw evidence of the
sensitive and authentic restorathor of the castle buildings which took
place in the 16th century one unexpected discovery was a family of 3
bears living and being cared for below the castle wall (imported by the
family as a reminder of their ancestory) 172 steps, although foreign
tourists continue to chalenge this figure! The castle tower has
officially Cesky Krumlov boats of the original Borac theatres (only 2
remaining in the world) and also a beautiful church which performs
regular services for both locals and tourists.
As we walked through the town streets where the film Pinocchio was
set, we saw evidence of unrestored buildings which remind the visitor
of the past and help retain Cesky Krumlov's authenticity.
Bars, shops and restaurants all lie within short walking distance of
the main town square and we found the service in them good, with staff
offering a welcome atmosphere and helpful advice. In particular the
Hacienda, a mexican restaurant was able to adapt the menu to accomodate
a vegetarian diet.
Throughout Cesky Krumlov there was evidence of Eagle Shiela, the
artist who originated from Vienna in Austria and made his home here
arriving. In the town with a large hat and your looking to the locals like a ghost!
Our visit over, we made a scenic and romantic trip across country by
taxi to the town of Cesky Krumlov witnessing a herd of wild deer on our
journey.
A 2 hour train journey from Cesky Krumlov brought us back to Prague.
It is worth purchasing a 1st class ticket to secure the privacy of your
own boom which provided both comfort and space.
